Engine ID

Does the third gen engines have a stamped ID on them.Looking for a VIN # or some ID as to year and model? If so, where is it stamped? The engine is out of the car,so finding it would not be a problem. Can anyone help me.

The engine came out of my son's 94 TransAm. If it has numbers indicating it came in his car,he will keep it for the person who buys it sometime in the future. Like "Numbers Matching Car". If it doesn't show that it came in his car,he wants to get rid of it. If it does have an ID pad somewhere. Where is it?

there is a number pad located on the passenger side front of the block, right behind the alternator. there should be a couple of series of numbers and letters. in one of those series there sould be the last 4 or 5 digits of the VIN number on the car. thats about as close as you can get.

I knew that there were numbers on the 1st gen at that place. I wasn't sure that the 3rd gen was there also. Thanks for the info.
