TPI to Carb...HELP

I am converting my TPI car to a Carb. I need info on how to retain the power windows, dash lights, gages etc. Are these all run by the computer? Are all the wires in the wiring harness? If they are, can I just seperate them from the harness? How do I get the wiring harness from the car (as in through the firewall)? If this is to much to post on the board, e-mail me @ britain.hirte@beale.af.mil
I need all the help I can get.

Transmission: 700R4 rebuilt w/TCI kit
Axle/Gears: 9" from 57 ranchero unsure gears.
the guages, lights and windows arent ran by the computer, youshouldnt have any problems, just leave the wires alone off the fuse block. just unplug all the stuff going to the computer, and remove the wiring harness ( to make it look better) put a stock fuel pump (mechanical) on and you should be set other than a new intake manifold, if I remember correctly the TBI units are only a 3 bolt/2 barrel set up. hope this helps

yup....just rip that computer out, and all the wiring coming from that side of the compartment. Throw the whole harness and computer as far as you can, or save it for Pablo. Get a HEI distributor, and cruise down the road and enjoy your new found hot rod.

Also you'll need a fuel pressure regulator to lower that high pressure the stock intank fuel pump is pushing to about 8-9 for the carb Also VATS, fan control, etc etc will have to be done manually.

Why in the hell would you want to take that high tech electronic fuel injection and replace it with a stone-age carb? Unless you're gonna make a drag race car, I dont believe its worth it. TPI is not a bad intake system and can be made to perform, if you know what you're doing...

My sentiments exactly....

------------------
bought a wrecked(head on,bad)'84 Z28 rebuilt it in'92 parked it in
'93 and ordered a '93 Z28. Got tired of the 4th gen in '99 and sold it and begin swapping in '85 TPI converted to speed density. engine is all stock except for comp cam. body has '86 IROC nose peice, ground fx and IROC wheels/goodyear 245/50's. IMO this car looks and feels more "racey" than my '93 did. and I love driving it. BTW fuel injection is great I'll never go back to carbs.

Kevin and James...when the car is done, we will race, and then you will see why. I also do know what I am doing, I got my camaro to go mid 13's on the TPI and a stock longblock with horrible 60 ft times. TPI cannot support 6500RPM and 500hp. Oh yes, this will be a drag car, but also driven very often and will corner too. I am thinking of coming to the next socal gathering...will a low 12-high 11 sec thirdgen be welcome? If that is not good enough I can hit the 150shot and run high 10's.

The only reason you are switching to carb is because it is easier. Anyone can slap on a carb on a small block chevy and run decent, anyone. Why don't you go back to a points ignition system while you are at it??? Three speed tranny??? 14 inch wheels???

Easier, cheaper, faster....hmmm...need I say more??? Why don't you guys that don't like carbs tell the pro race teams (NASCAR & NHRA) that carbs suck. I argree for a street car that has an A$$load of money to spend on injection, it is the way to go. But on a limited budget, you can't beat a carb. One last thing, I posted this topic for help on the switch, not your opinions about the switch, if you do not like what I am doing, SHUTUP!

If you are keeping the 700R4, you need to do something to make the lockup converter work, or you'll burn up the trans. You can either have a switch in the car, or there is a new thing (its been in the mags) to convert it to a pressure switch off the valvebody somewheres.
