zz4 and supercharger...
zz4 and supercharger...
Two questions...
What issues are there with putting a zz4 crate engine into an 88 GTA with the L98 TPI engine? I want to keep the TPI intake. I understand there are problems with using the smog equipment on the zz4, but removing all the smog equipment is not a problem for me.
Second question, how well would the stock 5.7 liter engine hold up with a supercharger? Or to boil it down to a more basic question, how much horsepower is the stock 5.7 good for? 350hp? 400hp? For that matter, how much is horsepower is the zz4 crate engine good for?
The end result that I'm looking for as far as the engine is concerned is the zz4 crate engine with an ATI supercharger, but it is going to have to be a two-stage process (with some amount of time in between the two stages, something on the order of 6-12 months)

The heads that come on the ZZ4 engine (same ones that came on the TPI Corvette) are not the best for a blower. They have 58cc chambers and make for a high compression engine. You'll want to change those heads for something better suited for a blower. Also, if you keep the heads, you will need an aftermarket base, because those heads have the 85-86 style bolt pattern. It wont bolt up with your stock 88 intake. You could also get a stock 85-86 f-body intake, or a stock Corvette intake.
