My friend says I can have a 92 ford tempo, just gotta come and get it outta his driveway. THink the starter is bad. When you try to crank it it makes 1 single click. I had him crank it for me while I listened, and it sounds like the sylenoid and the starter make the click. I tried jumping the sylenoid with a hot wire from the battery, and still no luck. SO that should rule out the neutral safety switch and the sylenoid right??? Does this just sound like the starter is locked or what. Any help would be appreciated.

 

It certainly sounds that way, unless the battery is totally flat.

Try having him crank the engine while you give the starter a knock with a hammer. That will free it up in most cases.

 

Well, like I said, I tried jumping it. Even if the battery was totally flat it should have started it. I am gonna go try to tap the starter with a hammer today, see what happens. You are like the 5th person I have heard that from, I just didn't have the time to go back and pick up the car yesterday. I really hope that works.
