I am trying to replace my igntion switch in my 84 trans am, but I cannot figure out how to remove the park lock cable. Once I do get it out, I can't see how it would attach to the new switch.

Has anyone done this before ?

 

It took me a while to figure out how to get the cable out, but there is supposed to be a plastic tab on the side of the swich. You push that out and the cable is supposed to come out. Also make sure that you turn the ignition key and press the button on shifter. Because there is also a pin holding the cable in. Hope this can help you.

 

alright, so how do i keep the cable in the new switch?

Im gonna go look for the tab now
If i was looking for the tab while it was still mounted to the column where would it be ?

 

Should be located near the plug side.

 

I'm trying to attach a picture of where the tab is located. As for the new switch it look like it isn't made for that cable. Might be wrong switch?

 

Well I got everything installed, and it still doesnt start.

The switch is the right one, and I adjusted it right, but i still turn the key and get nothing.

Going out to get some fuses, and a testlight, then tommorow, I guess ill just go through the electrical system and see where it looses juice.( its getting dark here, cant do much in the dark)

all my interior lights work, and my high beam indicator, and my cig lighter.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what to look for or test, let me know.
