crank the motor over a little bit, it sounds liek the fuel pump pushrod is in the outer position right now, turn the motor so it gets more near the bottom of the eccentric. Also, make sure to push the rod up in its bore and get the fuel pump arm under the rod. Its a slightly complicated process which requires patience and skill...oh wait, I can do it...

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Just in front of the pump mounting surface, on the front of the block, is a 3/8" bolt....take it out and temporarily install a longer bolt and just snug it up enough to hold the pushrod in place...DO NOT forget to reinstall the original bolt or you will have a massive oil leak.
