4 bbl carb
I was wondering why every time I start my car, I have to pump the gas pedal to start it. I cant just go into my car and turn the key for it to start. I have to pump it. Why is that? 86 Trans am, 4bbl carb, 5.0 L, 305 ci.

Depemds on how long the car sits between starting. Usually you can start it without pumping it after a couple hours. Check the check valve on the fuel filter to see if its there, most people like me remove them and have no problems some some people will have bleedback.
Your engine needs a little extra fuel to start. If the engine is cold, you also need to cycle the throttle once to set the thermostatic choke and high idle cam.
What you are describing sounds completely normal, and should be outlined as such in your owner's manual. If you had to HOLD the throttle open to start the engine, that would be a different issue and likely indicate a problem.
