Holy smokes !!!
My 87 T/A LG4 smokes a blueish color for about 2-3 min. after startup. Then I can't see smoke unless I rev it up a bit. The exhaust has an oily smell to it also. This is probly a lame question but; Does this sound like the heads need to be rebuilt, or the bottom end ??? What is the best way to tell ?? The motor still runs real strong and has lots of power. Could this be a bad timing issue ?? Please advise !! Is it time to put the ol 305 to rest and ressurect a 350 ??? Thanks

Yup, valve guide seals, a universal issue with these motors as the factory builds them.
You can fix it with the motor still in the car. It's a cheap, easy, relatively permanent fix.
