I think I overcammed

I haven't put the engine together yet but its a 350 bored .030 over with flat top pistons, performer intake, edelbrock 750 carb, and ported/polished lg4 heads. The cam I got is 234*duration and .488 lift. Is this too much cam with 3.73 gears and a 5 speed? I just wanna know before I put it together then have to tear it back apart to do a cam swap.

I'm no expert on cams, but i know a big cam like that will need fairly short gears, so 3.73s should be fine.

That cam sounds just right. I had a 284 comp in my firebird before the motor blew with 244 duration at .050 and .520 lift. Ran excellent, made enough torque to blow the tires off in any gear and idled good enough to pass emissions. Go figure

Well thats a relief. I didn't want to have to send another order back to summit. I already had to send back the pushrods, I got the part number messed up and got some for some kind of chrystler motor I'll finally get to start building this damn thing!!!

You might need a better intake, is that just a regular performer? If so it may hold you back above 5500 RPM where that cam is just starting to pull good, you might do better with a Performer RPM or Air Gap RPM.

Thats not a big cam at all, infact you might want to go bigger to get your DCR down since your using 416 heads with small chambers. But that intake sure does suck, and will hold you back.
