It's a 8½" 10-bolt. Probably 2.73 gears, maybe it has the "performance" 3.08 ratio. A 75 Catalina is pretty much yerbasic smogger sled; I can't imagine much worse of an era to get a drive train from.

No it won't fit.

do you think a rear from a 80 trans am with the ws6 4 wheel disks will be ok to put behind a well built 455? i was planning on putting one of those in because i already have one but i'm doubting it will hold up.

Define well built. The 8.5" 10 bolt can take a lot of abuse so long as your not on slicks. It would probably hold up to 500 hp on street tires. Slicks or cheater slicks would probably lower the safe limit down to maybe 400 hp. They can be strengthened enough to get a car into the low 10's.

In what? I'm assumig this is for a third gen F-car; if so, then it won't fit either. It's a 8.2" 10-bolt set up for leaf springs.

What are you trying to do?

its actualy going into a 78 trans am. i know its non thirdgen but this is the most helpful site i know of. the engine will have either 5c heads or 6x heads, it will probably have a conp XE274H cam, a dual exhaust with headers, and a good intake and carb. also about 10:1 compression.

do you guys know of any good second gen boards?

Try this site for good info on 2nd gen f-body cars. http://www.nastyz28.com/cgi-bin/Ulti...i?action=intro After you get there check out the message board for Transmission & Driveline Topics. There is a guy on that board Big Gear Head who really knows rear ends. He builds them on the side.
