Do not know what to do next! Please help

I have been having problems with the following problems with my '88 GTA:

Hard starting
Off Idle hesitation
Bad studder/stumble at 1800RPM-2200RPM

I have done the following the past few weeks trying to find the source of the problem:

Replaced bad O2 sensor
Adjusted TPS to factory .54
Reset computer
Verified engine mounts were ok(for the shaking/studder)
New cap(not new coil yet)
Checked plugs and wires(they were good but regapped some)
Attempted to change fuel filter(too rusted to get it off)
Verified FP at 44psi
Fuel pump charges for two seconds to 47psi when ign.in ON position so I think it's OK.

Then last weekend I decided to clean the TB and K&N air filter(both of which were VERY VERY dirty.)Now I feel a noticable loss in power in addition to the above problems since I cleaned those components. I checked to make sure the air ducts before and after the MAF were secure. I am also getting code 34 since then which I know relates to the MAF. This morning the engine cranked for about 6 seconds with no signs of starting. It finally came to life on the 4th try. These problems are driving me nuts! Could anyone please offer some possible advice on what to check or do??

Ok a couple things that may relate to your problem. Do you have any air leaks in your induction? Is there a loose vacuum line anywhere? Did you check your timing? Also did you put a new rotor on with your cap? How long since the Ignition control module was last greased? Is there any play in the distributor?

Could be a lot of different things causing your problems. The starting is likely a fuel problem causing the hard starting. You can try to give it some starting fluid to check that. Could also be a MAF problem, disconnect the MAF and try to start to see if that is the case.

Get that fuel filter changed for sure.
