$950 for a "INFL REST" light issue! WTH!!
The light goes on and stays on all the time i start the car. The mechanic took the car in and looked at it for $150! My airbag is kinda leaking out of the steering wheel I might add, and says he has to replace some electronic thing for $800 to turn the light off. I think hes
bullsh!ting me because ive read:
The 1990 system does not have current and history codes. It will store every code as a history code, and will not turn the "INFL REST" light off until the code has been cleared. My friend said i should rip off the steering wheel and replace it, but get someone who knows how to take off the wheel without killing himself.
Any help would be awsome, thanx

Did you already pay him?!? Holy crap. For that kinda cash you could get a carb, manifold, distributer, and FPR. Then take the computer out of the car, throw it in a fire, and dance around it. Thats what I did. No computer = no light
Well you dont have to do that BUT I would take it somewhere else and see what they say.
Or take the bulb out.

Well it depends on where the mechanic get's the parts from. If went through the dealer and charged list and 20-30% on top (most shops do, I dont) yea I could see the repair costing that much. Disconnect the battery for 3 minutes and your safe. Junk yards sell good used airbags between $50-300. I havent had to use a Diacom on any system as of yet usually just replacing the airbags and leaving the battery disconnected shuts the light off even though its not supposed to.

I just replaced my 3rd gen steering wheel with a 4rth gen steering wheel on my '90 RS. I had the same thing, where the plastic was getting eat up from UV rays, and allowing the airbag to try and "leak" out the sides in a few places - it wasn't a danger, just unsightly.
I got the wheel for $50 with airbag intact from a wrecked 4th gen, used the freebie tools from Autozone to pull it, and it works great! I did have to get the connector for the airbag wires from the 4th gen donor car, cut the 3rd gen wire connector off, and replace with the 4th gen connector - the 4th gen wire connector is smaller than the 3rd gen connector. As far as getting the light off, I don't know about that - my light was never on. Just follow the directions for removal from Haynes so it doesn't blow in your face! Simply disconnecting battery won't work - they have an alternate battery source deep in the passenger dash - you have to remove fuse and disconnect plug from under steering column in the correct sequence to be safe.

Im just gunna get a $50-100 wheel and put it on. And screw the sensor. Ill rip the bulb out too, I really dont think ill need an air bag. Ill save for a roll cage and prob the LT1 cam (getting from friend fer $100) and put that in with a performer Intake manifold and street avenger carb.
What problems have you been having? I wana buy a 670cfm because im pushing for around 290-310RWHP in a few monthes. Hopfully lots of help from some AFR 190cc heads

LT1 Cam
LT1 Cam for $100?
I've NEVER paid more than $35 shipped for one. (I bought 3 in last 6 months - one for me, one for brother, and one for another friend)

Christ! If you want to pay that kinda cash I'll fly out and do the replacement.
BTW The Haynes manual for our cars tells you how to disable the airbag to remove the wheel.
I did remove my factory wheel on my 1987 Trans-AM and replaced it with a Grant GT signature series. It wasn't that hard but it's hard to get the stock wheel off and not destroy it.
