is this robbing me of power???
ok i have been doing little minor tlc on my engine cleaning it up and such and guess what i find a nice cob job get this looks to me that a wile back the ariganal metal gas line rusted away on my car so the ran a rubber feul line all the way from the tank to the engine and mounted an electric fuel pump right next to the engine on the frame rail, and get this they have the feul line running to the car between the water pump and teh block. i guess they didnt want to make a mount or somethign to hold it in place. on top of that there are two very sharp bends in the line right ware the line hooks to the pump and right ware it hooks to the carb.
is this goignt o rob me of power? the guy that i had take a look at it and see what he thought told me that it will because on top of it starving for feul with the sharp bends that also as the block heats up the feul is going to get realy hot and he sed that engines make more power when the feul is cold not hot what do u think guys how much of an increase in power and throttl eresponce should i see if i get this fixed the right way with no bends liek that in the feul line and the line no ware near the block.
im sorry this was so long i just had to explain what you guys would have to picture in ut heads.

If it holds the correct fuel pressure under all conditions then believe it or not, it's not costing you anything power-wise. I suspect that it's not working so well, though. Having a long draw from the tank to the pump is not good- electrics don't like a long draw like that.
Also, no electric pump does a good job of regulating pressure itself without a regulator. Block-mounted mechanical pumps do a MUCH better job of regulating the relatively low ~6PSI fuel pressure a carb needs.
HOWEVER, that's a serious rig job. I'd have safety-related reasons out the wazoo for replacing it. A fresh set of factory-replacement pre-bent lines from the tank forward and a correct replacement block-mounted mechanical pump would be job one in my book.
