I hope you guys can help. I had my 89 350 tpi put into my 86 T/A (had 305 tpi) I'm rewiring the engine w/the 89 harness--Would i have to rewire under the dash also or would I luck out and not have to?If not could I just plug the 2 together(89 and 86) i'm using the 89 computer so do I need to use my vats setup? If I do I have to get my module back(sold it)I'm having a hard time w/this car. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks

Both the '86 and the '89 used the 1227165 ECM. The ECM in the '89 will have and use the VATS input from the VATS module. The pinouts for the ECMs should} be the same. In other words, the two years' ECMs should be plug-compatible.

Since you will use'89 ECM, you won't have a VATS module on the '86 body to connect to the appropriate input of the '89 ECM. You'll have to install a VATS system complete, or bypass the VATS module input to the ECM (sorry, no help from me on that one).

Thanks for the reply Vader. Could I use the 86 ecm w/the 89 harness then? Even though it's only for a 305?(86) I don't remember if the plugs are the same for both ecm's.
Does anyone know how to completely bypass the vats? I think I read something once on the board about it.
Does anyone know if I could plug the engine harness from the 89 into the 86 body harness? Would it work? Or do I have to swap the entire thing?? Thanks!
