My fan belt won't turn!!! Could my smog pump have locked up?

This sucks really bad! I go to start my car and it starts making this extremely loud noise coming from the fan belt area. That loud squeaking sound. I leave the car running and look under the hood. The engine is running but the fan belt is not moving at all. What the hell caused this? Could one of my accsesories locked up? Like the smog pump? I was planning on removing it Moday anyway.

Transmission: sure does
If the belt isn't turning just take off the belt and see what spins or doesn't spin.

Could be the smog pump, alt, water pump, etc.

How loose is the belt?

Sounds like it, but I hate to tell you that it is usually (but not always) the alternator that does that...

1/2 drive breaker bar, ratchet, whatever.
There is a square hole in the tensioner, stick it in there and pry it up outa the way, take the belt off. Simple. Dont take any of the bolts outa the tensioner, you dont need to.
