Autoxray..spark timing, Is displayed timing.. total timing?
IM trying to figure out my total timing at WOT with An Autoxray I just bought. I dont know if I understand it correctly. Can anyone help? IM getting 25* on the scanner at WOT, It retards from about 40* while cruising. I know A smallblock needs 32-40* of timing at WOT for good power. SO 25* is not good, IM also getting 8*-10* of retard under WOT. Is this normal? Is this why my IM only getting 25* at WOT?
Do you add the intail timing to the scan timing number to get the total? How do you figure your total from this?

The scanner is showing you ECM timing and knock sensor retard. To figure out the total timing:
Initial Timing + ECM Timing - KS Retard = Total Timing.

Thanks DUI...Initial is the Number of Degrees i have at the balancer right? Not what the computer is showing at idle in drive. I have it set at 6* on the balancer, and the computer is showing 16-18* in drive at idle.
So my total would be 6+25=31*

i dont think thats right i think the computer takes into account for what it thinks the factory timing is so only add if you have advanced past the factory setting. just my .o2

No. The computer has no idea what the crankshaft base timing is. It is only showing what it is giving you on top of whatever the base timing is.
To see the knock effect, look at the data for the knock retard. You should be able to watch the number of degrees of retard the computer is giving you every time you encounter knock. I can't remember exactly which channel on the Xray it is... one of the channels shows just the number of times the computer has detected knock since some time in the past, while the other channel shows the exact amount of retard present at any moment (which should obviously read zero while just cruising along).

IM getting 8-10* of knock retard at WOT. So...with 6* of base Timing and 25* showing on the scanner I have 31*? Or... is 25* the total?

Also..I noticed monitoring the (EGR duty cycle)The percentage never changes. I have a P.R. chip, could they have deleted the EGR function? Or is my soleniod not working? It doesnt seem to be doing anything.
The Auto-xray Manual says that the EGR duty cycle is...The amount of time that the soleniod in the exhaust gas recirculation valve has been cycled ON. The soleniod is cycled...to quickly modulate the valve and control its air flow.
Range: 0 to 100%.
