Poll: What headgaskets ?

I'm about to change my headgaskets tonite, in my quest to find the oil burning problem happening in cylinder #6. The FelPros that come with the head gasket "kit" dont look too "high performance" to me, so I wanted to ask you guys which gaskets you use and what would be recommended for my 92 L98 engine... ? Thanx in advance.

Fel-pros are pretty good. I use them when I do headgaskets when I am not at work. When I am at work, I use (what do you think I use!) Later.

Lemme take a wild guess here... Toyota head gaskets ? LOL j/k

That's cool... I guess I'll just buy ANOTHER set of FelPro's.

See... I call Spartan engines and asked what to do about this. They sweared up and down it's not their shortblock that has bad rings and it MUST be my heads, valve seals or intake gaskets. I told em I replaced the gaskets twice but they said I should check the heads before I ask em to check out the shortblock.

How did you know I put toyota gaskets on Buicks?!?!

Anyway, I hope you figure it out. Have you replaced the valve stem seals? If it comes down to it, are they going to reimburse you for all the head gasket jobs you have done if they do find out it was there shortblock?

Some people do some crazy stuff, like one time, I opened a brand new rotor out of an unopened box, and whoever put it in the box took a chisel and gouged the inner bearing race and engraved F**K YOU on the rotor surface. It came right out if the box like that! Must have been somebodies last day at the plant! Not that somebody intentionaly misassembled your engine, just thought I would throw that in there.

Well the machine shop that did my heads told me about the bad reputation spartan engine has (got the engine trough Checker auto parts). One of the guys quit them because their standards for assembly were too low and they didnt check clearances before assembling engines. I find that hard to believe since I dont think they're in the business of losing money (they have a pretty good warranty, so if that were true they'd have to replace every other engine that came out of there).

I'm gonna do a leak down test tonite, and figure out exactly what's going on in cylinder #6. Oil getting past the rings, trough the intake gaskets or trough the valve seals...
