will the mat sensor mess with my

i have an 89 5.0 tbi camaro with the mat sensor in the air cleaner base.my ecm is saying code 23 mat sensor if this is mess up will it mess with y idle because my car idles on gear and with the a/c on at 500 rpm to low right can the mat sensor be the problem

Since your ECM is reporting an error code, it may be operating in a less than ideal mode. You should repair the problem, either the sensor or the wiring, then diagnose any remaining problems. The functioning MAT may solve the problem, or may not. Idle rpm is under the direct control of the ECM through the IAC stepper motor, and relies on inputs to determine the correct idle RPM.
