Loss of umph
I have an 85 LG4, Quadrajet. Today I started having a loss of power. If I take off slowly, the car will reach about 30MPH, and that is it. If I try to get on it at all It acts like it is chugging. I hear the secondaries opening but no power. Almost like my nearly new exhaust was plugged.
I tried this in park and I got the same result. However, the top butterflies of the secondaries would not open. Tried 2 different carbs with the same result. I sprayed some carb cleaner around the carb to see if it was sucking air. No luck! I changed the gasket anyway.
I think this may be a vacuum leak. I was hearing a whistle but could not find where it was coming from. Would a bad EGR have this affect. Im going to try changing the EGR gasket tomorrow.
Any help is appreciated.

No, I haven't changed any of that lately. The engine was rebuilt in December. Most of that stuff was new then. I had to replace the cat for emissions. Do you think that could go out or clog in 5 months?
The whistle I heard may have been exhaust strying to come back through the AIR system if the cat is clogged right?

Thanks again
Well you guys have solved it again. The Cat was melted and clogged. :hail:
I ran for about 3 months with a bad ECM. Now that is changed, I hope I don't have these melt downs again.
