my '87 iroc, when under braking or acceleration, feels like the back end of the car is moving side ways. could it be panhard bushings or maybe a caliper locking up? please help.

Have you tried pushing on the rear side of the car when it's parked to see if it sways really bad? Altho I suppose if your shocks/springs are shot, the car would sway horribly too.
Visit a suspension shop.. maybe you can snag a free estimate from 'em. After they tell you what's wrong, gasp, and say "Wow I don't have that kind of cash. I'll take my chances."
Then come back here and fix it- unless of course it's not expensive for them to do it.
Hey how's your sway-bar end-links? Are they there?

The TA bolts solidly to the rear axle, the bushing is only at the transmission end.
I know it sounds obvious, but check your tire pressure.

My rear end used to slide from side to side. I went through alot of sh*t rebuilding the entire rearend only to findout the one of my panhard rod bolts was loose. I tightened up everything and it feels MUCH better. Just a thought.

Hm, speaking of tightening bolts..
I forgot- You know the track bar (or panhard rod, whatever) brace? It goes from the bracket on the passenger side up to the body of the driver's side. There's three bolts that hold that brace up, and one day I crawled under the car to see two of them missing. I replaced 'em, and the car felt tighter.
Altho I never felt a serious problem like this guy's talking about... so I doubt it's these bolts, but they're worth a look.
