OK, I'm Hosed! Timing tab missing

I have a 91 camaro 305 TBI and I have changed the timing chain cover to one without the tab. Now I am told that I need one on there to have the car smoged(Cali smog laws suck! ) Does anyone know where I can get a after market tab. I really don't want to have to pull the whole front of the engine off just to replace the cover with on that has a tab. I might be able to BS them and just put a mark on the new cover but then I would have to spend 50$ for a new cover just to put a mark there.
Any ideas. Thanks All

Get a timing tab for the cover you have, find #1 TDC very carefully and accurately, and cut a groove in your balancer with a hacksaw or at least paint a little white line there, and black over the OE line.

Other than that, you will either have to get a timing tab and a balancer that match; or put the right timing cover on it.
