non third gen obdII Q (gmtech, vader?)

my sister has a 96 monte carlo with the dohc 3.4l a year and a half ago the secondary air injection pump went, and was replaced under waranty, now it has gone again but the car is out of waranty. the dealer she took it to (the ses light was on and the car was down on power) wants $400 to replace the pump and 2 check valves, and told her if she didnt fix it soon it could ruin the computer and cost another $400 I cant see how that could hurt the computer, and figure its just a bullsh*t scare tactic cause she is a girl, but are there and tsb's or any other reason that the pump would go again? how bad of a job is replacing the pump on this car? (I havent had a chance to look yet) Thanks for the help

Visit http://www.alldata.com - apparaently there's a safety recall on the power brake booster for that car.

There's other TSB's on the car, but I think you'd want her to get her brakes fixed QUICK.
