I have a very dumb question... I always see ads in magazines for engine additives like Restore...I was just wondering if these additives actually worked or is it just B.S?

Im new to the game and i am trying to learn all i can

I'll agree that most of them are just B.S. - bad science.

The advertisements for these products are cleverly worded to make them sound as if they have some scientific basis in fact, when they actually only force the buyer to make false presumetions. For example, we all know that Teflon has a very slick surface, so it would "stand to reason" that we'd want this slick surface in our engines to reduce ffriction. However, real science (and the Federal Trade Commission) have determined that dumping PTFE particles in an engine is a really bad idea.

Still, the snake oils keep coming, and unsuspecting buyers keep buying.

Stay away from anything that the manufacturer doesn't specifically recommend. They designed and built your car and engine, and have to honor the warranty. They should have a good idea of what works and what doesn't.
