A/C swap question
A/C swap question
Will a 1989 Formula 305 TPI A/C system completely swap into my 92 305 TPI 1LE camaro? Also is an uncapped A/C system any good or will the moisture in the system destroy the inner seals in the compressor (a friend told me this)? My car never had A/C in its life, is this a doable swap if I have a free weekend and a lot of patients?
I have used a lot of A/C compoments that have been off for a while. Sometimes they work some times they don't. Just be sure to do a good job of flushing the old oil out of the system. Use the correct type and amount of oil and do a really good job of vacuuming the system down to remove the moisture. PS replace the acumlator (sp?)

It should all fit and bolt up. You may need to do a bit of work to the firewall though, can't say that I've ever seen a non-A/C firewall in a 3rd gen, but in some cars they're considerably different. Get photos and measurements if you don't have access to the donor car during the swap.
You should keep the components capped as much as possible, just to keep the contaminants to a minimum. Like coolcars said, you will need a new accumulator/drier, and you should always get a new orifice tube as well.
