2.8mpfi to 454carb questions

My one friend can get a 87 Camaro SC for a $100 bucks with a blown 2.8. Anyway he wants a big block in it. What all would need to be changed to switch from v6 to bbc?

I know it will need the following
1) v8 trans (will v8 700-r4 work with bbc?)
2) bbc accessories and brackets
3) sbc motor mounts (bbc ones won't fit?)
4) hooker super comp headers

What about fuel lines and the 2.8 fuel pump? Any thing else I'm missing?

A th700 will bolt up, but i would give the trans and the rear a life expectancy of 1-2 days. The fuel lines are small and the fuel pump is not up to the job. You have hit the basics but he expen$ive part of the job is in the details. (cooling system, ignition, exhaust, trans, chassis) it is a swap worth doing though especially with a 454+ combination.

Death of the 700-r4 and 10 bolt are not a concern. We just weren't sure if the 700-r4 would bolt up or not. Can get 700-r4 for almost nothing and figure it's good enough to use while getting the bugs out. Plus it'll only be a truck 454 for now. Then down the line it'll get some real goodies.

88 427 Camaro I forgot all about your site...Good thing you said something.

For the hood aircleaner clearance problems. We'll probably take the stock hood where it naturally bends and chop it all around. Then push it upward and mend fiberglass around it. So it sorta resembles blue502s hood. Only with a higher degree angle.

I would be careful about a 700. If it blows badly and locks up it may take more than the trans with it. The same goes with the rear. I blew up a 9" ford nodular center this spring and it took the case, the driveshaft and one axle along with it as well as some new shaping of the floor. The hood is not a major issue. With no air cleaner, the plain, flat hood cleared a dart manifold (mini-tunnel ram) with a dominator and a 1" spacer. A truck combo may be deadly in that it makes a ton of torque which is what will kill the drivetrain, not horsepower.

Fuel lines are the same size as V-8 on a carbed 2.8 car, I couldn't tell you about an MPFI car.

Fellow out here has been running a rebuilt (not "built") TH700R4 behind a 454 in a '65 Impala for two years. Drove it down to Oklahoma last month. He hasn't had a lick of problems with the tranny, and he's pushing 2 tons around.
