Big ***** on a convertible?

I read a few weeks ago about not being able to put a whole lot of power in a convertible. Could someone please tell me if its possible for a convertible to hold a 383 or 400? Thanks

I have a ZZ4TPI motor in my 89RS with no problems. If you are worried, but SFC in and all will be fine. I'd put SFC in a hard top with a large motor since I've seen cracks form at the back where the roof meets the sail panel.

Thanks for the info... I had already formed most of my goals/plans, and was about to start ordering the major components, when this hitch halted all my plans. I just want to beat the p!ss out of my neighbor. he's just bought a new corvette. he asks me like everyday if i want to race. nobody likes him very much. I figure the way to go is with a strong 383 or mild 400. Any one else got some advice?

Punster,

Yeah, I have some advice. Tell your weiner neighbor that anyone who plops down $45,000 for a car that only runs low 13's is a wimp, a weeny, and has more $$$ than brains.

He deserves the treatment for asking you to race him all the time. Now that that's cleared up.........

Budget-build a 383 using SCAT crank and rods, along with GOOD aluminum heads (Dart Pro 1's can be gasket matched to a #1206 medium race port) and a good cam. Use forged pistons - GOOD ones.

Install one 150 HP nitrous kit, meet said weiner boy at dragstrip, and clean his clock AND his wallet.

Then ask him if he's going to buy a Viper, or some other car that has a better chance of keeping up with your rocket-like 3rd gen.

DO NOT tell him you have sprayed it!!!

OBTW - I own 2 Vettes - but that gomer is still a giant penile implant. Guys like that give real hot rodders that happen to drive Corvettes a bad name.

Off with his head.

Good luck.

With the mods in my sig, I beat C5 Corvettes by 5 - 6 car lengths easily (and it still isn't tuned properly). Just build it and enjoy !

Would a convertible with a stiffened chassis be able to handle a strong 383?
