Simple question...
Simple question...
Where can I get a good quality Wire Harness? The cheaper, the better, of course
I mean, the one they sell in Summit Racing, by Painless Wiring is $286!!!!
Is there someplace online where I can get one for a bit less?
Oh, yeah, how easy is to replace the wire harness? Do you really need a bit of car knowledge? or can you do it alone and just be organized and take your time doing it?
Thanks

Well, I know you wont want the painless wiring one. I bought it when I had to replace mine. Let me tell you, its total trash. Well, that is if you looking to replace yours. It would have been great if I was putting it in say a 68 camaro that I was trying to retrofit my EFI to.
All the connectors are not the same. For instance, on my car it is factory MAF so it has the 165 ECM. It has 2 plugs on it. Those two plugs come from the ECM. Leading off of those, are a few other plugs that connect under the dash to other plugs. there is a 15 pin connector under there and a 4 pin one. The factory harness has provisions for this. The painless one does not. What that means is a big headache. I tried to rewire the painless one to match my factory one with zero success.
I was out the $$ to do it.
I got lucky, and found one used on the web. I think RCR has a painless kit in his car. I think I seen a post somewhere that he said he had one. I dont know how he got it to work.
My recommendation would be to check junkyards. Or look in classifieds around the net. There are a few f-body specific yards around the net and if you can find them, around the country.
Good luck.
HINT: If you are looking for 90-92 parts, EXTRA good luck. I tried looking for a factory harness out of one for my speed density conversion. no luck.
a friend's dad is building one for me.
sorry if I didnt answer your question completly

I guess I won't be buying a painless then. I have a 86 Iroc too so I won't be having the 90-92 trouble. I've seen a few ones on Ebay but don't know if I can trust them that it's 100% working... that's why I wanted a new one, to avoid all the problems that a used one could bring
I'll still look on a junkyard, maybe I 'll get lucky
Thanks for answering
