brief hesitation when opening throttle

i've had this problem since i bought the car almost 2 years ago. never really paid attention to it. today me and a friend worked on our cars (he's got an 85 305 TPI camaro) and i noticed that on his car, when he opens the throttle real quick it revs right away but on mine there is a very brief hesitation. its not like it wants to stall or anything, but comparing each other's motors, its noticeable on mine. car runs fine and i've checked for vacuum leaks, but can't find any. since i dont know what (if anything) has been done to the inside of this motor, what else can i check outside to fix this??

i seached and could only find posts where people have problems when driving also. i have no driveability problems but it's obvious the slight hesitation is there. motor's running good, i get good gas mileage and plugs/wires/etc have been changed.

If you mean you slam your foot to the floor and the rpm's
don't jump immediately, but pause like a quarter second, don't
sweat it.

if it takes longer than a half second to respond, hmm, intake
could need cleaning?

but really, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

I'm sure other vehicles do it too, my 91 camaro has that
slight hesitation, I just suspect the intake needs a good clean,
but it doesn't really affect performance, not that I can notice
anyway.

1-350,

Hesitation at throttle tip-in is not uncommon with EFI systems. The problem is that the throttle blades are almost completely closed, and all idle air is flowing through the IAC valve and air passages. When the throttle is cracked open, there is hesitation while the nearly dead air around the throttle plates has to begin moving.

One means to combat that and increase throttle responsiveness is to reset the throttle minimum air position, but adjust the hot RPM to closer to the high end of the range. Instead of setting it for 450-500 RPM in DRIVE, set it for 550-575 RPM in drive. This still allows the IAC to control the idle RPM, but allows for some air to always flow around the throttle plates and reduces this hesitation.

Of course, the TPS will require adjustment after this to maintain the 0.54 VDC setting at "closed" throttle.

thanx for the replies. yea it isn't noticeable at all when im driving, only when i open the throttle myself. that's why i haven't paid attention to it.

i set the minimum air all over again but this time in drive (had done it in park before). i dont think it helped much cuz i still feel the hesitation, but like you guys said i guess its normal. however now my TPS wont adjust any lower than .7V. i know the correct setting is about .54 +- .06 i think. so i dunno what the problem is there. anyone know how i can fix this? the car doesn't feel like its running any differently although i may be using up more gas now.
