more info on 383 & 6 in. rod & question regard 6-71
i am build a 383 with 6 in. rod, and the link is one of the disscuion take place @ the old board that i clip.
http://freehosting2.at.webjump.com/1...ump/6inrod.htm
my project has change so much now, but from the look of thing, i decide to ditch the sleeper idea. instead of tpis mini ram i am gonna go with a 6-71 blower with either tbi or carb and hood scoop
.
i was gonna go with efi, and the blower thing just fall on me(i got it from a garage sale this weekend for $300, it is in very good condition, turn very well, still have the green paint on it.)
so my question is does blower play well with a stroke motor(3.75 stroke and 6 in rod)?
or should i ditch the stroker stuff and build a blown 355?
it is really hard to find deep dish piston for 3.75 storke, 6 in rod...
and engine head selection for blower. i am assuming since it is force induction, the intake port speed doesn't matter that much(was gonna go with afr 190cc). or should i go bigger or smaller...?
the purpose of this car is fun(probably drive around town in the weekend), but i still want some street manner
thanks

It will work fine with a stroker motor, just ditch the 6" rods, the pin is too high and is not the best thing. The heads you want to use are great. Are you using forged parts? really pistons are the only necessary part, stock reconditioned rods, and a nodular crank will be fine if kept below5500 rpm. For good streetability use two vacuum secondary carbs, smallish ones. Have a knowledgable person help tune it, for suree
thanks dan,
yes i want to go with SRP forged piston, i am using 4340 rod, and scat cast steel crankshaft.
i always think a large(850 double pumper) single 4 barrel carb is more streetable than the dual quad(650 or smaller) setup... guess i think wrong.
the thing with 6 in rod show that blue print is important, make up your mind and stick to the plan.

with a blower i'd recomend the 5.7 inch rods or going with a 6 inch rod 355 due to the oil control ring problem. blowers put a lot of stress on rings. blower will take care of the torque.
If you're rich, 5.85 Oliver rods are trick and the best all around. But the rods are like 800.00 and the pistons are another 600 or so..
