This is for all the experts....
Can the 86 305 TPI run with only a set of shorty headers bolted on? I have heard so many different stories about aiir leaks and the O2 sensor malfunctioning. The IROC shows no codes, fires, then immediatelt dies. I only have headers on. Do I tow the car and get the y-pipe made, then try it or what? Man, this would help me out alot
Any help is much appreciated-

well, im no expert but i drove my car with open headers. i have 87 firebird with the stock 350 tpi, i put on some hedman shorty headers on at my friends house and i had to get it home somehow! so, there i was driving with open headers down to my house which was a good distance away
it actually never died or anything. i put in a bushing on the header for the O2 sensor then drove away and never really had any problems.
man was it LOUD!

Yeah , it should run without the exhaust...it May just throw some codes. Sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me...What work did you just do to your car..only new headers? Sounds like the fuel pump may be priming, but not coming back on. Check your Fuel pressure.

thanks guys,
I have researched and I think it is the MAF. The computer had been throwing MAF codes out for awhile, but now they are gone so I will try to unhook it and see if I can keep it running. I did take it off when I replaced the old thermostat so, yeah....I am going to check all the connections also-
Thanks- Ben
