So how do I remove my gas tank?

OK, I gotta change my fuel pump. The fuc$ ing haynes manual says "drop the fuel tank and replace the pump" My a$$! I have my panhard rod in the way, my muffler, my rear end. DO I have to drop the rear end to get the tank out?

No, but you can swing it down once the panhard & shocks are unhooked. Oh yea, don't forget the brake line block on the side of the rear end.
I think you have to remove the track/panhard support. (Sorry - It's been awile)
Get the car as high as you can, and drop the rear as low as you can.
The reasons are, is that damn filler neck is an A** TURD to navigate out.

you arent kidding about the filler neck lol its even more aggrivating to put back. I did this job on saturday. Raiden make sure you have help...youll need it dropping the tank is not fun especially if your tank is full. And please be careful when your unclamping your lines...make sure before you do all this you disconnect your battery terminal and depressurize your lines. good luck

You could cut in an access panel from inside the car and avoid the 8 or so hours of torture rolling around under the car. I replaced mine by dropping the tank but had every other part dropped from the rear as well as they were being painted and powdercoated and the 10 Bolt was being rebuilt. If it goes in the future I plan to cut the access panel in and not turn 1 bolt under the car.

man calm down youll be fine. before you resign yourself to "8 hours of torture" hear me out...

yes it would be easier to cut an access panel from your trunk, i went to all the work of dropping my tank and as soon as i got it out i looked up and saw the HINGED access panel someone cut in the trunk. (yeah thats right they even put it on hinges, someone was thinking ahead)

it took me all of 30min to get the tank on the ground. now that was before i had my exhaust put in, so i had no muffler to get in my way. all i did was jack up the car and put the stands under the frame, not the axle. this allows the rear end to drop to the end of its travel, and gives you another 6 or 8 inches to play with, then i just took out the 3 bolts for the upper panhard rod and dropped it down. after that, 2 13mm gas tank strap bolts, and your tank is on the ground. try it this way, its not as aggrivating as everyone says. good luck

good job on the tank but if you have 60lbs then youre begging for trouble. your reg should limit it to about 38-45 and if you have an AFPR then it souldnt be above the low 50s. 60lbs is begging to blow a hose......
