the guys over at trans am county tech told me maybe you might be able to help me out a little bit more.
my mom has an 85 ta with a 350 vette motor with 305 heads. it is fuel injected and does not have a carb. it just got a new timing chain so we took it in to get timed..it was idling round 7-800 for a few hours..we decided to go to the store and the car started idling at 17-2000. we didn't want to put it in gear cuz we were afraid of dropping the tranny. my mom put it in gear and the back tires spun, the car jerked, and the brakes barely held it.
also when you take it out in the country and floor it, it won't upshift even after it gets to 5000 rpms. it does not shift until you let off the gas. if you floor it again it does the same thing. this car also has a shift kit in it that i forgot to mention. although i have been in cars with shift kits and this car does not seem to even have one.
does anyone happen to know what is going on? i noticed there was a thread a couple below this about timing but this car doesnt' have a carb and i thought the response may be different. i appologize if it isn't. i really do need help. no garage up here will work on the car because it isn't stock and we don't have the money to remake it stock. thanks so much.

Check the throttle cable and linkage and make sure it isn't hung up or binding.

Sounds like the TV cable needs to be adjusted. Get a manual for the car (chiltons, Haynes, etc) and find the section on TV cable adjusting. If you adjust the cable like it states in there and it still has shifting problems, extend the cable a notch or 2 and try it again (you'll understand the "notch" after reading how to adjust it and see/ feel it adjusting).
