Wont shift out of first

This is my friends car, a 92' camaro manual. He was driving and all of a sudden he couldnt drive in any gear but first, he could move the gearshift into the other slots but it was really loose and didn't do anything. So he had to put around in 1st all the way home. What could this be?

if you can do it without pushing the clutch in then i'd say your tranny is (outa sync)probably hulled out like my t-5 junker did....mine did exactly the same thing, would only move in one gear.. which was third...but I could move in every other slot without pushing in the clutch and got nothing..took in in and had to have the entire thing rebult....only thing any good was the case itself
