Okay, about three days ago my check engine light started to come on for a few minutes about 10+ times a day. Then on thursday i started to smell oil burning off. I check my oil, and its low so i add some. Now for the odd things. All of a sudden im driving and i try to accellerate and boom no acceleration. This happened while on the highway, i could not not past about 70mph. Anyhow i didn't think much of it until later that day. I started to have the same problem but at various speeds. Now today i got my tank filled and added some of that fuel injection cleaning stuff, hoping it would work...No go. So im driving home tonight and the same problem happens so I pull over to check under the hood. To my suprised I see a glowing red coming from the lower engine, If i had to guess I would say it was the block. The car has not had a tune-up in quite some time, and is a little pass due for an oil change.
my question....Can a dirty/old fuel filter cause blockage and cause the hesisition in acceleration and cause the glowing red?

it's a real safe bet your engine never got hot enough to glow red. if it did your only problem is finding another engine. WAG would be a clogged cat, with unburnt fuel getting into the exhaust anf burning there a close second.
