Guys help me out please!!!

ok heres the prob, I have an 89 Irocz 350 and when ever I go to a cold start, it catches and then cuts off, it will do it for about three times and finally catches, I have a scanner and it reports that my Map sensor isn't responding quick enough. I m really getting bad gas mileage, I need to know if it is my MAP sensor, can you tell me where it is located? I don't know if this sounds right but is located with the MAS sensor? Well I ll really appeciate any help, thanks, oh by the way I already replace the EGR valve

Dac,

You need to check the setup on your scanner. Your engine should not have a MAP sensor. It should have a MAF sensor in its place.

Is your SES light on when this occurs?

no the SES doesn't come on, yeah I m kinda of a rookie in the whole area, my buddy did the scanner, for me. when we first scanned the car it had a reading for the map sensor, it wasn't responding, it did after awhile, he unplugged my MAS and then the light came on, then when we did the scan again it read, MAS/MAP sensor. I heard that my car might not have the Map sensor, but wasn't sure. Yeah I think that if is my mas sensor that its working just enough not to get the attention of the computer. If that sounds right, anyway? What do you think Vader?

If it had a MAP sensor it would be located on the back pass side of the plenum. It has a wire and vacuum lead coming from it.

When did the MAP cars start - Vader? I thought '89+ was all the same?

hey I was asking around about my prob, and someone said that it might be my fuel pump regulator, I recheck the set up on my scanner and it still had a reading for a MAP sensor, but this time on the trouble code it read MAF\MAP sensor is to high, also the throttle sensor was reading to low, could the fuel pump regulator be causing this, because the service engine doesn't come on? oh sorry I forgot the trouble codes were 22 and 33? Am I on the right track or far off?

Mike - '90-'92 SD, the '89 was still MAF, but without the 9th inj. It is also the premier year of the F-Body.

Dac- To try a quickie (now Vader I did NOT intend for that to spill coffee) just unplug the MAF sensor before you start the car and see if it starts easier, this will give us a clearer beginning for diagnosis. The MAF is the hard plastic tube that is part of your air ducting to your intake plenum. On the bottom is a connector you can unplug (locking tab type). The code 22 is a TPS code. Your TPS may be faulty, or it could have grounded out, or it could be related to the code 33. The code 33 is an impossibly high reading from the MAF. Or so the book says, I have found that more likely than not that it is one of the two MAF relays playing fast and loose (no relation to the alleged 'quickie') with your computer. That is primarily why I asked you to yank (out of the gutter Vader!!) the MAF plug first. It will eliminate or focus our attention on the MAF.

BTW - Sorry for the side comments, but I have a big debit balance with Vader in the spilled coffee dept. (and soda, beer, tea, water, etc.) and I figured I could nail two birds with one(sic) stone, y'know.
