Valve Lash
Valve Lash
K well my cars all ready 2 fire up and everything but im worried i didnt set the valve lash right. What I did was set the #1 piston at TDC, and set half the valves (what ever my haynes manual told me 2 do) some intake some exaust. Then i turned her over to #6 at TDC and did the other half. Now the thing is when #6 is at TDC the Rockers I did when #1 was at TDC were pretty loose. Like they would never come off the push rod but if i lifted the front part up and moved it to the left or right I could slide them off the valve springs. I am useing new push rods, and lifters if that matters. Did soak the lifters over night in oil. Comp Lifters Crane Push rods but they were the stock replacements so exact same **** as the original ones just new.

You may want to relash them after you get teh engine runing. do a search on lashing the valves while engine running or hot lash. Basically, you back off each valve till it starts to click, then at the point where the clicking stops, that's zero lash. I usually go 1/2 turn past zero. Hot lashing is supposed to be more accurate.

When the valve is closed there should be some play, but not a ton your are describing. A few lifters of mine wern't resting on the cam lobe so I felt some resistance in the pushrod but when I gave it another 3/4 turn it was just pushing the lifter into the bore and not actually preloading it, mine was also loose as hell when I came back around.
