Cam recommendations for 305 5 speed?
what's your budget. ?? I know a few REALLY good cams for a 305, BUT they are about $ 300, if you DO want decent mileage AND an increase over stock performance, AN LT1 cam will do the trick, they can be found on e-bay for around $50 ususally..

But he has an 86 engine so he needs a flat tappet cam.
With a stick and 3.23 gears you could get away with a Comp XE 262 or XE 256. Crane makes some nice PowerMax cams like the 260 or 266 also.
If it is for the street with only occasional blasts at the track I'd stay with the XE 256 or the PM 260 or 266.
A lot of folks do like the XE 262, however.

I have a 230/230 with .480 lift @.050 and I believe 110 Lobe separation. Makes the motor pull nicely up to about 6200 rpms. Even though it's an old school "square"
cam, I like the way it sounds/runs.
