How do i get the wire into my car?!

I'm wiring up a fan switch and i have everything set except a way to get the wires into my interior through the firewall. How did everyone else do it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You'll either have to find a grommet that has room for the wires to run through, or get out a drill and find a spot you can carefully drill through.

Break out the drill and a center punch, and make your own hole in the firewall!

If you -don't- have cruise control, you're in luck. There's a plug in the firewall, I believe it's below the brake booster/master cylinder combo. You can knock that into the driver's compartment with a hammer & punch.

If you -do- have cruise, you can use that hole as a guide. Make sure that when you drill (from the under the steering wheel OUT to the engine compartment), there's nothing that you'll "snag" with the drill bit when it exits.

Then, please make sure to go to Radio Shack and buy their "assortment" of rubber grommets. Insert one into the hole. Or buy them first, and see what kind of hole you need to drill. If you use no grommet, you run the risk of the firewall's metal cutting thru the wire after a month or so.

If you use a big grommet with only two wires going thru, you can fill the grommet with "Black Weatherstripping Silicone". That way you won't have to drill another hole if you want to run more wires.

I just drilled a hole for my clutch assembly and the guys who installed the alarm ran a wire though the hole I needed. But while I had the carpet pulled back I found a plug in the firewall on the left hand side near the deadmans pedal. I got an awl and punched a small hole in it and fed the wires through. If you have an auto there should be a hole in there already you can use. Just pull your carpet back first and do some scouting.
