Sumthing wrong? oR No?
K guys well i cant tell if my car is actually acting up or not. Well its a carbed 350 with headers and as of right now its running straight back into a muffler(no cat). Well, when i start it up or romp it i will get sum exhasut smoke. It is white in color. Now i know this can be a sign of a bad head gasket but it doesnt really have an overheating problem (at worst it gets 225 on 90 degree days). It doesnt run horribly bad either . I mean it still ahs as much kick as it did when i bought it. Any ideas, could it still be a bad gasket? Or woudl this be normal? Also a little off this topic, can a bad trans mount cause vibration in reverse or at a high rate of speed?(sorry if thats in the wrong spot)Thanks

lets start with the easy one first... a bad trans mount usually makes a loud thump noise on hard acceleration in drive.. i'm not sure about reverse but if it does it constantly then you can probably bet on it being bad... cheap part though everyone says go polyurithane but my stock replacment is and has been fine for about 2 years now!
white smoke is def bad but if its sudden on startup then it could be a minor leak or just some condensation left in the exaust.
it could also be simple like a small leak gettinging into the headder. as well as an intake manifold gasket leak. if it really starts smoking bad then you gots problems.

sorry if i sound like an idiot but i always thoguht a little smoke out of a carbed car is ok. I mean it dont smoke that bad it just a real bad smell to it and it will do it sumtimes. But i mean it still not normal to see a little smoke with no cat and carb and headers?
Raf,
First, TBI may be right. Condensation will create white "smoke" (actually, steam) on startup. You'll normally not see that but can/will get drips of condensation from teh exhaust system and tips.
Second, "when i start it up or romp it" you'll do more than drive out condensed moisture. If the engine is cold enough to have allowed moisture to condense, you'll also risk shearign the oil film in bearings under teh extra load, damaging bearings, and significantly shortening your engine life.
I try to allow my engines to warm at least 45-60 seconds before even putting them in gear, let alone revving them. Yes, even the lawn mowers. Maybe that's why my bearings and crank are at new dimensions with over 100,000 miles on them.
That's your call. It's your engine.
And the E.P.A. can go copulate with itself. They're not buying my engines. I don't care about fuel milage for that couple of minutes while they warm up anyway. If they'd pull their collective heads out of the lower ends of their digestive tracts, they'd acknowledge the fact that most pollutants are created on cold starts and startups. You'd think they'd advocate warming an engine, and abolish toll boths and bridges as a result.
Government. Can't live well with it, can't live well without it, and can't lynch the worst operators. I guess all we can do is keep working on them and try to bring them along to enlightenment...
