valve adjustment/ lifter ticking

I adjusted my valves the other day. I got most of them quiet but a few I could not. This is how it would go: The lifter would be loud, I'd tighted it down and the noise would go away, 2 seconds later the noise comes back. Does this mean I need new lifters? I have roller lifters.
