water pump question (long or short)

I am getting ready to put a GM ram jet 350 motor in my 89 iroc. I was checking to make sure the serpentine pulley set from the car would fit the same on the ram jet. However, the bracket with the power steering pump and alternator will not bolt up because the power steering pump hits the water pump. The ram jet comes with a long water pump. My question is does an 89 350 motor have a short water pump. I purchase the car without a motor, so I have nothing to go by.

Thanks

It's my understanding that our cars came with long pumps.

I understand that about the only auto engines that came with a short pump after the mid- to late-'70s was the Corvette. Maybe the trucks had them in some installations, however. But if it helps your clearances or accessories, go for it.

What I am hoping is that the water pump make for the the 89 iroc camaro was designed so there is not a clearance problem. That will be the next thing that I do. I bought the car from a buddy of mine, and he has an edlobrock water pump for an 89, which I will try an bolt it up to the ram jet motor and see if that works. If not I may decide to go with a different pulley set up, or possible fabricating a difference bracket.

Thinks for the help.

The water pump on a '88 TPI 350 with serpentine belt is reverse rotation. I've never had clearance problems with the brackets or the aluminum aftermarket pump, or the correct cast iron pump on a few different serpentine setups.

It doesn't have the mounting studs like the normal rotation long water pumps and it is the long pump. Actually, you can change the water pump without removing any of these brackets too.

That's how it's worked for me anyway.

That is what I am thinking. Once I take off the water pump that came on the ram jet 350, and get the correct water pump for the 89 set up my pulley clearance problems will be solved. Thanks for the help.
