Trying to make parts list for new engine
Okay, my 400 is in need of serious work, and honestly, I'm tired of messing with it. I am going to save up some cash and build a 350 to replace it with. Heres what I've got so far, but I'm so used to looking for oddball parts for a 400, it seems that I'm not as familiar with good 350 setups. I am trying to do this cheap, like under $2000. Heres what I've got right now:
- Rebuilt 350 short block, $300 with core, $515 without. (local shop prices)
- GM Vortec heads, $249.95 each from summit. Can be found a little cheaper on ebay
- Edelbrock performer intake for vortec heads (PN EDL-2116). $159.95 from summit.
I'm not sure what to do about a carb yet, but this thing has to pass emissions, just the sniffer test. The guys at shops around here don't care whats unddr the hood, as long as it passes the sniffer and makes the computer happy.

http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...2174&pid=89535 Much better heads, and the whole package deal. I assume you know Vortec heads require self-aligning rockers (also included). If you're willing to drive to Lubbock, you can save the shipping costs.
http://www.paceparts.com/product.asp...=18&submit.y=8 Great carb. Already set up for you. Holley would be about $100 cheaper, but you'd need to tune it.
That pretty much takes care of your budget. Hope you can get a distributor somewhere cheap. And cam stuff. And everything else you'll need when an engine is changed out.
