Why is this different???

I was reading the specs on the L03, and the 89 has a higher RPM for peak HP. 170 at 4400. All the other years peak at 4000. What is the difference in these motors? I would think that it would be good to have it peak at 4400 rather than 4000, but what do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

I think it was some sort of a cam change for emissions reasons but I am not for sure. It is better to have your horsepower higher in the rpm band in my opinion with torque down low but this will vary from person to person.

But even the 88 L03 peaks at 4000. Why would the change it for just one year, and then change it back. It will be cool if it was a cam change though.
