Question about adjusting the IAC...

Quote from tech article:

Take the paper clip and open it up and form it into a big "U" shape. Insert the clip ends into the ALDL in the 'A' and 'B' pins.

Turn on the ignition, but don't start the engine. Wait 30 seconds. Now, go remove the connector from the IAC.

Start engine.
I just have to make sure about one thing. I have to remove the clip from the ALDL before starting the engine, or it will screw up my ECM, right?

To verify that the throttle plate screw is adjusted such that the car will not idle with the IAC seated (closed), you may remove the paper clip across the ALDL terminals. Starting the engine with the terminals shorted will not harm the ECM, it will run the ECM in diagnostic mode - the check engine light flashes according to the mixture ratio, etc.

So to sum it up YES you would have to remove the paper clip before starting your engine.
