Holley pump question

Hey guys, I'm installing the LT-1 in my race car and I have to switch to a elect. fuel pump for the carb set up (the block has no provisions for a mechanical), I bought a holley "red" pump which will pump 97 gph at 7 PSI, my question is, if I mount this pump in the engine bay will it pull fuel from the factory tank all the way to the bay, the instructions say to mount the pump below the tank and gravity feed it, but , with the factory tank this is impossible since the fuel lines come out of the top of the tank.

well, I am un sure about what you are really trying to do but, alot of mustang guys use there stock tank and run the lines to the rear of the car then mount the pump back there under the bumper.

oh, and you want the pump as close to the tank as possiable. the fuel needs to be under pressure not a vacume. when fuel is under a vacum it lowers its boiling point and when it gets hot you get vapor loc. the temps under you hood can and will do that unless you have it going there under pressure

That's not the pump you want. It's designed as a "helper" pump to be located back by the tank to feed fuel forward to an additional block mounted mechanical pump. You really want the ~15 PSI "blue" pump back by the tank and a fuel regulator mounted near the carb to knock it down to about 6 PSI.

7 PSI back by the tank from an electrical pump can turn into only 3-4 PSI at the carb under heavy acceleration due only to the weight of the fuel in the lines under the g-force of acceleration in lower gears. I have actually measured fuel pressure with such a setup under these conditions.

That 7 PSI pump works FANTASTIC in conjunction with a block-mounted mechanical pump, not so great on it's own. If you don't beleive me hook it up back by the tank, slap on a fuel pressure gague and take a spin.

NO electrical fuel pump does a good job drawing fuel a long distance from the tank. Don't mount it up under the hood near the engine- it won't work very well.

so the holley blue is a good pump? I need a higher flowing fuel pump than the stock TBI pump.

I have a pickup from a 84 camaro so I could put that in and just run the holley blue outside the tank somewhere.

Yes, that's generally how they're hooked up. Remember with that pump you need a fuel pressure regulator up by the carb to keep fuel pressure at a carburetor-friendly ~6 PSI.

I already have a mallory 3 port regulator up by the carb. I switched from TBI to carb so I had to get one anyways. Now I have a pickup from a 84 carbed car...I wanna stick it in my tank and run a holley electric pump inline somewhere.

I can get the holley blue for 91$ from work
