Casting numbers on heads....

well checked out the casting numbers on the heads my buddy has. And these are the numbers:

14101083 and
14162183

i can find info on the first head, but cant find a match for the second head. First head is rated for a 350 87 and later, gen 1, 64cc chambers, also used in crate motors for 285 and 300hp. and uses a 72' center manifold bolt angles. Anyone know where to find info on the second head number i listed.

Think if i get these ported and get some nice valves and a nice angle job and such. Do you think that these heads can perform well?

thanks alot guys,
Opha

The 083 heads are what comes on L98's (350 TPI engines) from '87-'92. Good head to work with, search the archives...rhuarac..or similar has them flowing very well.

the 183's? Could be 193's...look at the intake ports, if you see an angles vane in the intake, just leave'em alone...they were TBI truck heads and you don't have a lot to work with.

Also, if you plan on having heads rebuilt and paying for porting work, you would probably be better off buying aftermarket heads.

well this engine wont be much of a long term item, maybe the summer or so. just somthing to have for a lil bit. when i say porting i will prob just do the job my self and get some valve work done too. where as buying new heads and getting them worked out, i know would be better, it wont be worth the money for this engine. thanks for the info though!
