HEI question

what is the difference between the in-cap coils for the Hei dist. I keep seeing catalogs specifying red/yellow wires or another color combo (cant remember) and what determins which color wires someone would use. I bought a used dist. and it didn;t come with coil so I don't know how to tell which one to use.

Not sure about any other color combos but... red is battery, yellow is tach, metal tab is ground (in the middle). I don't think they would actually fit any other way in a cap, regardless of color. Here's a picture....

I think the coil for the older style vacuum advance HEI and the later style computer advance HEI is different. Im not 100% sure, but I'm willing to bet thats what the difference is.

I think he's asking what the difference between the red/white wire coil and the red/yellow wire coil is.

All I know is they are for different year models. I don't know what the actual difference is though...
