so i broke the insulation from the back of the alt
to the wire that goes to the battery so it now it sparks when they touch.
What can i Put back in between them so it doesn't spark.

This happened to me also, I was told that the stock wire is too small, and this makes it hot and the insulation brittle. I replaced the wire with a battery cable that I cut the connections off of, jammed it into the alt. and fusible link real good and wrapped the connections nice and tight with high temp. elecrical tape. Worked fine for me.

If you are talking about the 'cover' that goes on top of the two wires that are on the back and held down by a nut, just look for the rubber cover from an older one (like what came with my '79 350)
Its rubber, so it doesn't break and wont allow any arcing (sp?).

Im talking about the one wire on the back of the alt.
I just need to stick something around it so it doesn't spark?
I can't even get the bolt off the back. it just spins when i try.
so i need to rig it up.
I need to like tie something around between the nut and alt.

See my 1st post,
the same thing happened to me.
Tape a wire in there and shop for the rubber connecter that was suggested earlier. I am good with the high temp tape, just fix it so the volts flow without a bunch of heat.
