Clunk underneath console!?
Clunk underneath console!?
ok, everytime im in D not OD but D whenever i accel it make a small "clunk" right underneath the console. At first, i thought it was an engine mount, so in the morning i went out and looked at em.. i had bro start car and shift to D, but, nothing no engine movement nothing. I JUST replaced the tranny mount about a month ago with an energy suspension tranny mount, So, now i'm wondering if it could be my U joint? (if not that what else could it be tranny?) and if so what should i look for and how could i test? It also clunks while decellerating in D when the car shifts from 2 to 1.

ede, i just replaced my trans mount
cost me $18.99 for an energy suspension one. So, i really can't think of what else it could be. Could the energy one be broke already? Oh, and the clunk was still there once i replaced the trans mount too. So, i'm hoping its somthing else other then the tranny? Any ides?
THX AGAIN!!

Although it's possible, I can't imagine the ES mount failing that fast, I would look elsewhere first. Are all the bolts around the mount tight? Does your car have the "secondary" ones, which are big biscuit bushings between 2 pieces of the crossmember? If so are they OK? Is there any chance of the exhaust hitting the floor or some other part of the car? Those are about the only things that can cause that. There should be no difference between D and OD since the trans does all the same things except for its last shift.

hrm.. mabe it could be the exhaust
i remember that when i was looking at the cat (deciding how im gonna get headers and stuff in) i saw a exhaust clamp by the cat not on, and that is by my console. hrmm.. Stupid night time, heh i could go look now but i can't See! argh.. oh well i'll check tomarrow. One other thing if it IS an exhaust part how come it would make the noise in D not in OD?

If the trans has a real crisp shift in D but a lazy one in OD (not usually the case), maybe that could cause it. Otherwise I can't see how an internal logic process would influence things hitting the floorboard. I'd tend to discount that (as being a "red herring") until all other simpler possibilities are ruled out. Use the 2 prime rules of inductive logic: (1) rule out all possibilities one at a time, then the last one that remains, however improbable it seems, is the culprit; and (2) the simplest explanation that fits all the facts, however unlikely it may seem on the surface, is usually the right one.
