the other day i was rushing to not be late for work. to get to my work i have to climb a very steep hill. as im climbing it at about 35mph i give it a little more gas. my tranny wasnt ready to shift so i guess it downshifted and my rpms went sky high. by sky high i mean redline. it was only in the red for a second or two then i jumped off the gas.

after that my car began to idle very rough, stall, smell, and sound like ****.

what harm could have been done after a second or two in the redline?

 

car year and engine will help. could be anything from mechanical damage to the distributor really. what does it smell like and what does it sound like?

well check all the obvious things first, spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, all that good stuff. also listen for vac leaks.
